The last Jack Higgins novel I remember reading was his 1975 blockbuster best seller, The Eagle Has Landed. The Judas Gate is not in the same league. I thought it was a decent read, although it garnered a very mixed bag of reviews from long-time Higgins fans. I gave it a 6 out 10 rating. The story revolves around Higgins' main stock character, ex-IRA hitman Sean Dillon who now works for the British government, trying to chase down rumours of a British citizen who is helping Taliban insurgents fight against foreign forces (American and British) who are supporting the Afghanistan government. Dillon and his cohorts run up against old IRA supporters, foreign and home-grown terrorists, and some bad-ass thugs during their quest.
